0 0

One person has been injured after a chemical explosion at a Scarborough factory Sunday morning.

The factory was on Coronation Dr. near Morningside Ave. and Lawrence Ave. around 7:30.

Toronto Fire says eight people were in the factory when it exploded. It appears a 30 litre container of cyclopentadiene, which can be used as part of a process to make plastic, exploded.

One person suffered burns to their lower legs. They were decontaminated at the scene and taken to hospital.

Toronto Fire says the explosion was contaminated to one room in the factory.

The building is been vented and while there is no threat to people near the scene, the Ministry of the Environment was given a heads up.

The extent of the damage from the explosion is not known.
