Team Canada has advanced to the men's hockey semifinals.

They beat Latvia 2-1 in today's quarterfinals.

Patrick Sharp scored Canada's first goal of the game in the 1st period. Latvia's Janis Sprukts tied the game, also in the first.

Shea Weber scored our second goal on a power play with just under seven minutes to go in the game.

Latvia's goalie, 21-year-old Kristers Gudlevskis, put in an outstanding performance. He let in only the two goals, even though Canada outshot the Latvians 57-16.

Canada will take on the U.S. in the semifinals on Friday at noon E.T.

The other semifinal will take place at 7 a.m. ET Friday, between Sweden and Finland. The home team, Russia, was eliminated today.
