Canada takes women's hockey gold
Thrilling 3-2 OT victory

Canada has won its fourth straight Olympic gold medal in women's hockey _ and it happened in dramatic fashion.

Marie-Philip Poulin scored in overtime to beat the Americans 3-2 in a thrilling championship final.

Poulin also scored with 55 seconds left in the third period to send the game to overtime.

Brianne Jenner scored Canada's first goal at 16:34 of the third.

U.S. captain Meghan Duggan scored in the second period and Alex Carpenter added a power-play goal in the third at the Bolshoy Ice Dome.

Shannon Szabados made 27 saves in the Canadian net while Jessie Vetter stopped 28 shots for the U.S.

With the same two goaltenders in the nets, the Canadians beat the U.S. 2-0 four years ago in Vancouver.
    The Swiss defeated Sweden 4-3 earlier for Switzerland's first Olympic medal in women's hockey.

    thats right baby we got the gold . the yanks did not have a chance in hell . hope maple leaf players watched that game before thay end up replacing them with the women . thay know how to kick ass .

      @john come on ... the yanks sat back and tried not to loose the game instead of trying to win it. It was an even game and Canada happened to come out on top, which Im happy about ...

      @john Oh, the US had a really good chance. It was the bottom of the 3rd period, US was ahead 2-0, and the game was theirs to lose. So they definitely had the chance.

    I just wanna say that I thought it was interesting that the referee in this game almost won a gold medal.

    The best part of the game was watching the American women cry after our winning goal. Not to gloat but to witness the amazing passion and the will to win, something that you never see in professional sports. It would help if some of the NFL or NHL millionaires cried after losing a game.

    It brought back that old TV sports intro (wide world of sports?)..."the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat"...we were privileged to see both today.
