Former game show host calls return of the hunt "barbaric"

The province is telling Bob Barker to mind his own business.

The former game show host calls the return of the spring bear hunt in Ontario "barbaric" after a 15-year absence.

However, Minister of Natural Resources David Orazietti says he's not sure where Barker is getting this facts from. The minister says what's happening this year is a proposed pilot project in 8 out of 95 zoned off regions in the province.

Orazietti says this is a question of safety with communities reporting a growing number of bears approaching humans and wandering around towns.

The minister wonders if Barker knows that eight other provinces and territories have full-scale bear hunts every spring.

Orazietti points to the fact that the province has tried to education people, bear -proof communities and trap bears since the hunt was cancelled in 1999.
