Mayor Ford in L.A. for talk-show appearance

Ford is expected to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday

Mayor Rob Ford is in Tinseltown for a couple of days.

Despite the fact that the mayor will be in town for one of Hollywood's biggest nights, he won't be rubbing elbows with acting elite on the red carpet.

There wasn't enough time to get a security clearance, Councillor Doug Ford told CP24.

But Ford says they may be checking out some of the much-talked about parties.

"Rumour has it Jimmy holds the best Oscar parties there are and I'm sure we're going to be wandering around a few of them," Ford said.

Mayor Ford called Newstalk 1010 host and Toronto Sun columnist Joe Warmington with the news that he was travelling to L.A. and appearing on Jimmy Kimmel's Monday night show.

"He was like a kid in a candy store," says Warmington, who spoke with the mayor over the phone. "He called me up, he was excited, like a 12-year-old."

The mayor called Warmington Saturday, just before he boarded a plane in Chicago.

Ford is in L.A. with three staff members - his chief of staff, communications assistant and driver - and his brothers Doug and Randy.

Warmington says he's not sure why Ford chose to appear on Kimmel but says people at the show have been "working every contact" to try and get Ford on. "Everybody that knows Rob has gotten a call from Jimmy Kimmel."

Including Warmington.

When Ford arrived at the L.A. airport, Kimmel was there to pick him up.

According to councillor Ford, and to tweets from the the mayor's account, Ford is busy shaking hands, talking up Toronto's reputation as Hollywood North and inviting people to the city.

I wonder if the Toronto paparazzi is going to follow the mayor to L.A. Mr. Ford did you have a drink? Did you do drugs? Are you going to apologize...... Aaaaah shut-up you bunch of broken records. Nobody cares for your repeat, useless questions. I thought that maybe you needed an education to be a reporter. I guess I was wrong. Mayor Ford, have a great time. You're just as big a star as anyone who is nominated for an award. Make Toronto proud. Ford More Years. It's time to "Take The Power Back"

@AdrianoC1981 This is the type of response we come to expect from Ford Nation. Pathetic and a total embarrassment to our city.

@AdrianoC1981 Toronto reporters will look like a bunch of morons if they follow Ford to LA, that's what they look like everyday in Toronto chasing him around asking the same worn out questions...

@Marina If you were to vomit Marina, I'm sure Mayor Ford would be one of the only members of Toronto city council who would consider helping you clean up the mess. Why don't you think about that for a minute?

I thought admitted drug users were not allowed entry into the US.
His Miami pot troubles should be enough to exclude him.

@Joe Well, there goes the theory of US officials barring the mayor from entering the U.S.
And it exposes the media hype that wants Ford to fail.

    * * * MAYOR FORD WINS AGAIN! * * *

Another accomplishment by our very own mayor. Mayor Fords promotion of film in Toronto is millions and millions of dollars to reap in the future. Who else could
pull this off?, . . .only the positive, perfect example of a winner !

Further, Kimmel is scoring big too, riding the positive wave of Mayor Ford. All Americans will discover the real truth, and experience the epiphany about
    our Mayor Ford.
    Eureka, he's a regular guy!

I'm glad he's a favourite to win the mayoral election. He deserves it over and over.

    Good going Mayor Ford.

    Thank you NewsTalk 1010

@Peter I`m so very sorry...that was a very stupid post. Apparently the Ford brothers were barred from the Oscars...they`re going drinking tonight.

I`m so sorry for being an idiot.

I'm actually not too sure about Ford's willingness to appear on Kimmel's show.

First off, we all know what's going to happen.. Kimmel will milk this for what it's worth, and will not be taking Ford seriously. It's all for the ratings. If Ford thinks he's going to go on the show and get away with saying stuff like stopping the gravy train, and he's got the best track record of any mayor going, then he doesn't understand how late night comedy shows work.

So, two possible scenarios... One, Ford knows exactly what he's in for. And is okay with laughing at himself, which ironically, is the only way in which he can maintain his celebrity status. The audience loves famous people who can laugh at their own dumb mistakes, and will give them a pass.

Scenario two, Ford doesn't have a clue what Kimmel is about to do to him, and it won't end well. The audience isn't as forgiving of people who they initially thought were interesting, but turned out to be some dummy way out in left field with no clue.

Either scenario is very interesting, and makes me wanna watch.

@Angry Bill Well put and thoughtful.....

I didn't watch it (went to bed early), but how did it go? I'm more hoping for the first scenario...
