Ontario to appoint Pupatello, Lord in energy roles

The two will take their new positions on April 1, 2014

The province has announced it will appoint former cabinet minister and Liberal leadership contender Sandra Pupatello as chair of Hydro One and former Premier of New Brunswick Bernard Lord as chair of Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

Pupatello takes the reins at Hydro One as it deals with thousands of billing complaints. OPG was the focus of a scathing Auditor General's report last year on executive compensation.

"I'd like to thank the outgoing Chairs, Mr. Epp and Mr. Arnett, and I am confident Ms. Pupatello and Mr. Lord will continue to provide thoughtful guidance needed to move our electricity sector forward," Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli said in a statement.

Pupatello has recently worked for the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corp. and  PricewaterhouseCoopers. Lord is now the President and CEO of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunication Association.

The two will start their new jobs on April 1st.

This is the sort of nonsense the Ombudsman should also be going after. These are major corporations and they need professionals, not Liberal hacks, running them. This is a much bigger issue than someone having the taxpayer pay for 95ยข parking as the damage to those firms could be in the hundreds of millions when they're run incompetelntly, as in eHealth, Ornge, etc.

@dama And then they'll get 4 X that $500K when they get fired/resign/quit/retire after doing their damage.

Strong, experienced, outspoken and very competent.
Hold on to your hats, Hydro One senior and middle management ... change is rushing headlong at you in the person of Sandra Pupatello. Ontario, prepare to be pleasantly shocked - for the first time ever a government in this province is doing something to try and reign in the mess that is Hydro One.

@Fact Provider Sorry - "reign" should read "rein". (stupid spell-check)

@Fact Provider Didnt they say about Ian Troop, the EX CEO of Pan AM? that he is a very experience person to run the PAN AM game and he EXPENSED $1.89 for parking?????

PUP atello, might be experienced as you have stated,, but I will not be surprised that down the road Sue Ann Levy will write a column about her $2.00 Tim Horton coffee expense..

Power hungry people will not change their SPOT....

Proof me wrong by letting me see that my hydro bill has dropped 15 %....
