Peel Police are putting residents of a family-friendly Mississauga on alert after a seemingly random, unprovoked stabbing.

Police say a woman walking near McLaughlin Rd and Eglinton Ave W just before 6 am Sunday when she was stabbed in the stomach by a man she didn't know. Her alleged attacker just walked away.

The victim was able to get home on her own to call 911. Her injury is not considered to be life-threatening.

Police are now looking for a black man, 5'2 tall. He was wearing dark-coloured clothes and had his face covered at the time.

Police are asking people who live in the area to be careful when walking around, to stay aware of their surroundings and to stick to well-lit, well-traveled paths. If you have to walk alone, let someone know the route you're taking and when you plan to arrive at your destination.
