Rink rage: Man charged after threatening hockey refs in Barrie

Refs locked themselves in a dressing room, feared he'd attack them

Barrie Police have laid charges in what appears to be another instance of rink rage.

It was at a teenage women's hockey game at the Holly Recreation Centre last Sunday. Police say two referees were berated by an angry male spectator throughout the game.

He then confronted the pair after they got off the ice, threatening to attack one of them. They locked themselved in a changing room as the man continued to hurl insults and obsenities and tried to get into the room.

Investigators say he continued to yell and swear at them in full view of others attending the game, including children.

A 47-year-old man was arrested Saturday and is charged with uttering threats of bodily harm, assault and causing a disturbance. He was released with conditions.

Police have not released his name.
