A 65-year-old former volunteer hockey coach from Peterborough has been released after receiving a sentence of time served.

James Alex Brunton pleaded guilty earlier this year to seven child pornography charges. He was arrested last year for secretly videotaping teenage boys in the showers and change rooms of a local hockey arena. Brunton had also paid a 15-year-old boy he met on a fetish website to send him naked photos.

In his decision, justice Peter Harris wrote that what he found most appalling was a "fantasy" contract Brunton entered into with the teen, who had agreed to be used as a sex slave.

Brunton's defence lawyer, Alison MacKay, says the contract was fantasy-based and would not have been carried out.

Harris wrote that while the damage Brunton has done to the community is "unquantifiable," he put into consideration that the 65-year-old has shown remorse and there is a low risk he will re-offend, according to a psychiatric report.

Brunton will be on probation for the next three years. For the next 10 years, he can't go to any public places where a child under 16 is present unless his wife or another designated adult is with him.

Brunton, who submitted a DNA sample today, will also be on the Sex Offender Registry for life.
