Police Issue Warning About Potential Sex Offender

Toronto Police say suspicious man seen lurking outside elementary school with bag of toys.

Toronto Police have issued a public safety alert after a man was spotted lurking outside of an east-end elementary school Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at 12:15pm.  Investigators say that’s when a school staff member first spotted the man hanging around outside Secord Elementary School at 101 Barrington Avenue in the Main and Danforth Avenue area.

“The staff member didn’t recognize who it was and tried to approach him and as he was being approached the male just walked away.” said Detective Constable Sam Sun with Toronto Police 54 Division.

The staff member walked over to where the man had been standing and discovered a bag filled with children’s toys.  The man returned to the school 15 minutes later and was once again approached by a staff member and once again the man walked away.

Investigators are concerned that they may be dealing with a potential sex offender and are warning parents, teachers, and children to be on alert and report any suspicious activity around their schools.
