Chapter's Festival Hall to close in downtown Toronto

Parent company says they have made the difficult decision not to renew the lease at the Richmond and John location...

Another popular downtown landmark is closing up.

Indigo Canada has confirmed that Chapter's Festival Hall at the corner of Richmond and John is going to shut down on May 30th.

When asked for comment, Newstalk1010 recieved the following:

"We, like every great retailer, regularly review, assess and negotiate lease arrangements for all of our store locations when the leases near expiry. After lengthy negotiations, we have made the difficult decision not to renew our lease for Chapters Festival Hall at John and Richmond in Toronto, and will close the store, effective May 30, 2014. We believe there continue to be opportunities for us to better serve our GTA customers and we are actively looking for new real estate options in Oakville, downtown Toronto and Bloor West Village that will best meet our requirements."

There's no word yet on another retailer who could fill the void left in the building.

    Yep

More of the downtown retail decline during the last four years under the administration of the "businessman" Mayor

And over 10% unemployment, nearly 3% more than the Ontario average.

@Etobi-COKE Voter Were you a regular customer at Chapters Festival Hall? If you were, then you have my commiserations. If you were not, then shut your chops.

woman named Burns laments in the Star ho wshe used to browse and chat in teh store before teh movies. BROWSING AND CHATTING does not pay the rent. Buy something or STFU.

Like libraries, bookstores are history. Everything is avaialble on teh internet, for free, or at least more conveniently than taking teh TTC downtown. Sealing wax is dead as well in case Byou hadnt noticed.
