A man is dead after being shot numerous times in his car in what police are calling a ``brazen attack'' in downtown Toronto.

Det. Sgt. Steve Ryan says the victim, identified as Shmar Parris, 25, of Toronto, was known to police and the overnight shooting is believed to be a targeted attack.

He was also a rapper, known as Murda Marz, rapping about guns, women, partying, and high-end cars.

Ryan says a light-coloured SUV was seen driving erratically away from the scene but there are no details on any suspects or how many may be involved.

Police say Parris was pronounced dead in hospital Friday after being found slumped in the driver's seat of the car with multiple gunshot wounds near Carlton Street and Parliament Street.

Officers went to the Mutual Street and Gould Street area at about 2:30 a.m., for reports of gunshots but while on the way they were called to a collision a few blocks away involving a car that had crashed into a pole.

The victim was found in his bullet-riddled car at the collision scene.

@john If Adam Vaughan had his way bullets would be banned and definitely this person would be alive today, at least according to Adam Vaughan.

@Frankie actually Frankie, if Adam Vaughan had his way, he'd not only ban bullets he'd also enact a special article of city legislation banning you from making 'bang', 'bang', 'pew', 'pew' sounds during your weekly trips to City Hall as part of the "Let's Help the Mentally Disabled Adults" program for socializing the mentally handicapped.

Surprise surprise, other news outlets are reporting that Shmar was "known to the police" before getting pumped full of holes. 5 bucks says he had this coming.

Bill Blair should spend more time stopping this kind of murders than chasing aimlessly for Rob Ford's arse..

Use to see dude around, he thought he was the shit and could step on anybodies toes and get away with it. Rule number one of the street is even the hardest head splits with the softest bullet. What do all Toronto's most successful drug dealers have in common? You never see them and you never hear about them, the kids in the park need to take a lesson from that.
