Mayor Ford adds disgraced sprinter and Trailer Park Boy to campaign team

Outside his office Tuesday afternoon, he announced that disgraced sprinter Ben Johnson and Trailer Park Boys actor Sam Tarasco are offering their support.

CTV News

Mayor Rob Ford has expanded his campaign team.

Outside his office Tuesday afternoon, he announced that disgraced sprinter Ben Johnson and Trailer Park Boys actor Sam Tarasco are offering their support.

"They want to come out to events and they want to get votes," mayor Ford told reporters.

Johnson was stripped of the gold medal he won at the 1988 Olympics after he tested positive for a banned substance.

"I support Ben 100 per cent," mayor Ford said. "We've all made mistakes in life. I've supported him since day one and that's the bottom line."

Tarasco plays Sam "The Caveman" Losco on the hit Canadian comedy series "Trailer Park Boys."

"I'm an Etobicoke boy," Tarasco said. "I've always supported mayor Ford."

@Karl Burgin Army of one- and morale of none. Pretending to be other people to agree with yourself- sounds like you need to be back on your meds.
You're pathetic if you think this scheme of your is going to work.

At least you got the last line right.

@Karl Burgin Karl, you miss the point. Even if it was just for a couple days: YOU became part of the Story!

Finally we have credible front men for the campaign. Thank you Mr. Mayor. The campaign was starting to look like a three ring circus but now they`ll know we`re serious.

This is what the media is down to - no second chances! No wonder everyone laughs at Toronto's inept media.

Go Mayor Ford! And bravo for making bold choices.

Rob welcomes these two clowns to the team.
Doug says they're not part of the team.
More great "team work" from the mentally challenged Ford brothers.

Ben Johnson was once the most hated man in Canada...sad that Rob had to reopen all those wounds and bring back memories of Canada betrayed.

Canada stopped to watch that race and went nuts when they took our gold medal away.

Rob just couldn't pass up the opportunity to rub salt in our butts. He keeps on talking about "respect for the taxpayer" but has shown nothing but contempt to all of us that pay our taxes and expect a certain level of service from what has become a very broken city.

We are in desperate need of leadership, not a grandstanding buffoon that works in isolation with his brother that uses him for his personal gain. I thought that we had it bad under Mel Lastman and June Rowlands, but this goes beyond the pale.

To be reminded of the disgrace at the Seoul Olympics, his subsequent lying and denial of taking banned drugs, and then blaming it on a third party that "put the stuff in my water bottle" even though tests proved prolonged use...is a slap in the face of all that's decent. Rob can relate to this cheater and liar, but those of us that remember those Olympics and the national embarrassment will never even think of voting for the Fords again...I'd lead a movement to boycott DECO...those idiots don't deserve our business.
    1. arthur posted on 04/09/2014 12:11 PM
@HP i agree DECO labels should be boycotted altogether. after what these 2 did to this city
you must remember also when Johnson in 88 held that news conference out on some farm to give his side of the story how innocent he was and must be all a big mistake.
      sound similar?

@HP The city is broken because the media has been given license to run free without reign. Running news reports that belong in the Enquirer, and asking questions over and over, until they get the answer they want.
And the hate-on for Ford so rich, that you have people pretending to be members of Ford's family on social media, to cause trouble. A lot like what you see here where you have one troubled individual pretending to be others who support the mayor.
Or the hate-on is so rich, that whosoever defends the mayor is touted as uneducated- to the point where grammar and spelling is scrutinized under a microscope.
A hate-on so rich that you have people who will turn ANY topic into something about Rob Ford (*cough*Adam Vaughn*cough), there is no topic where the name of Rob Ford cannot be mentioned, or anything that goes wrong in this world is somehow linked back to Rob Ford (i.e. comment on drunk driver in Texas ramming thru crowd).

You HP, and arthur can disagree with Ford all you want. That's a choice you make, and I wouldn't interfere with that. Because Ford is responsible for some of the mess he's in, and he has let you down. But to continually ridicule those who support Ford (because they accept his apology and would like to see him return greater than before), or decide to boycott his business, or chase him around relentlessly.
This is where a simple political dislike turns into a personal heated fanaticism.

The city is not broken because of Ford. The city is broken because of those who will by any and all means destroy a man because of their hatred of him.

    K. First off- I know imitation is supposed to be flattery, but doing the same spiel over and over is really getting annoying donny so quit it.

And as I recall it was everyone INCLUDING Ben Johnson was cheating at the time. And he was thrown under the bus then. Now the media are throwing him under the bus AGAIN calling him a disgraced runner- even though it was PROVEN that there were no 'clean' runners at the time. So let's please quit with the 'high and mighty' attitude.

Point numero three. Whatever Ford needs to do to win, I'm for it. I see nothing wrong here. The man is simply arming up for the big battle down the road. Ford promised it would be a blood-bath, you know he's a man of his word when his mind is set on something.

So bring it on haters- let's get ready to rumble.

@Karl Burgin I can forgive Ben for being caught the first time. Even the second time he was caught, and given the lifetime suspension, I can forgive him.

What I CANNOT forgive him for are those "Cheetah" commercials. Remember? "Yes, I CHEETAH All the Time!"

Ben always struck me as a nice guy, maybe not the smartest, that wanted to do good by his country and was convinced to do things that he shouldn't have.

Rob Ford is a nice guy (mostly), maybe not the smartest, that wanted to do good by his city and was convinced to take on a role that he shouldn't have.

Excellent choice Rob, Keep up the good work.

    What are you thinking?

    From today's Star:

One of the first members of Rob Ford’s campaign team is the co-host of an online marijuana show, High Fuckers, in which he smokes joints until he vomits, tells profane stories while high, and dedicates his drug use to Ford.

“In honour of Rob Ford, I think we should smoke the ‘green crack’ kush today,” actor Sam Tarasco, best known for his role on the show Trailer Park Boys, said at the beginning of the second episode.

Ford, who is asking voters to look past his own drug use, announced Tuesday that Tarasco and disgraced sprinter Ben Johnson will be working on his campaign, playing “a lot of roles.”

@Mark7 Hmm.. you just gave yourself away as a fake (yet again). The real MARK7 never swears in his posts. You on the other hand, can't seem to help yourself.
Not to mention, its extremely difficult for the real MARK7 to sound as asinine, as how you always seem to accomplish.

Oh Ford Notion. Do you really think disgraced drug using athletes and actors who play stoners is the image you need to project onto Rob?

    Really?

Don't we have enough of these associations already with Rob, without adding new baggage on?

Who's next to endorse Rob? Paul Bernardo? Can't wait to hear Rob defend Bernardo's endorsement - "Hey, we've all done things in the past we regret." Stop picking on Bernardo, and Ben.... and me"

Rob Ford is trying to make this mayor race out to be only between Chow and himself.
Then he could play the right vs left card. Part of the strategy is to pretend John Tory is not a contender. The reason is because character becomes the yardstick for who get elected.

I urge all conservative voters to put a stop to the damage Ford and his brother have done to this city and its reputation.

Rob Ford needs us (to survive his political future) but we the citizens of Toronto do not need him.

    Thanks to all of you.
