Flaherty state funeral Wednesday at Toronto's St. James Cathedral

Visitation Tuesday in Whitby

More details are emerging about the planned send-off for Jim Flaherty.

Flaherty died last Thursday of an apparent heart attack at age 64. His death came less than a month after he stepped down as federal finance minister, a post he had held since 2006.

Flaherty will be honoured with a state funeral Wednesday at 3pm at St. James Cathedral on Church St, near King St.

Visitation is set for Tuesday in Flaherty's hometown of Whitby. It will be at the Abilities Centre on Gordon St, south of Victoria St W, 12:30 pm-4 pm and again from 6:30 pm-8 pm.

Flaherty and his wife Christine Elliott have been champions of facility that offers sports and artistic activities for people with and without disabilities.  The couple has triplet boys--Galen, John and Quinn who are in their 20s. John has a mental disability has has been active with the Special Olympics.

Flaherty's family has asked for donations to the Abilities Centre in lieu of flowers.
