WATCH: Tories strike back in defamation lawsuit

Party members say they will defend themselves

The Tories have officially responded to the premier $2 million lawsuit against them, after leader Tim Hudak and Energy Critic Lisa MacLeod made allegations last month that Premier Kathleen Wynne oversaw email deletion in the gas plant scandal.

The police investigation into the matter revolves around former Premier Dalton McGuinty's staff.

The lawyers letter underlines the Tories don't believe their statements constitute defamation.

MacLeod says they're not to blame in this entire situation, they're just trying to get the facts out there.

She says they're not backing down.

MacLeod claims the premier is making things worse for herself by continuously bringing up comments from last month.

These allegations haven't been proven in court.

Conservatives are in NO position to judge any criminal behaviour. They are the most unscrupulous criminal govt in my memory. Be sure, they will destroy our Province with ALL the Gusto of the Federal Conservatives. I hope Ontario smartens up, to keep the criminal in The Conservative party and the criminals in the Liberal party out of office. Our ONLY choice is the NDP.

@Jackie Evans Have you been in a coma the past ten years? The Federal Conservatives kept Canada afloat while the rest of the world was going through a recession, the Provincial Liberals have been doing their level best for a decade to turn Ontario into Detroit North, and the NDP don't have the fiscal sense to run a lemonade stand without going into bankruptcy.

@Jackie Evans a lot are beginning to agree with you. Corporations and the rich have to many perks and loopholes. even John Tory says corporations pay little to no income tax. If they are allowed to kill manufacturing in this country and outsource for cheap labour overseas for bigger profits then i agree with strict regulations and oversight if you want to bring that product back to Canada for sale here. you pay through your nose

@sam It's the Liberals and their friends in the NDP who are killing manufacturing in this province; between the endless fees, miles of red tape, mountains of regulations, and an environment where all a union has to do for a pay raise is to really want one, it's become utterly unprofitable to do business here.

@john There are many who post here who try very hard to do it in a meaningful way and with some care.
You are not one of them.

i think it's a wise move doubling down on their position. when Hudak and Macloudmouth eventually apologize they will look even sillier the way Ford did vs. D. Dale

@john It is exactly the reverse of what you say.
Hudak is so dumb that he has his socks packed in a road map so he can find his way home on the weekends.

Cross examination of the premier on her reputation will involve all of the |Liberal scandals that took place when she was a member of the government, and especially as a member of cabinet. I have yet to find anyone who thinks worse of the premier because of anything the Conservatives have said. Her reputation rides entirely on the Liberals, their multi-billion dollar scandals and her involvement and support of gov. actions..

Should she somehow win on a technicality, how could damages be more than $1?
The public is behind Hudak and his minister. Thank you for standing up for Ontarians.

Is it just me, or is MacLeod becoming Hudak's Lauren Broten? If things turn south, he is going to leave her dangling in the wind.
