Adds six types of cancer to coverage list

After battling with opposition about the budget in question period, the premier announced those battling fires will have greater workplace protections.

Kathleen Wynne made her final announcement on Wednesday afternoon before the budget is tabled, focusing on firefighters.

Wynne says the province will add six new cancers that could be suffered as a result of their jobs to a list that would allow firefighters and their families to get support they need.

It would make it easier for them to qualify for benefits.

This move will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 1960 - and applies to full-time, part-time and volunteer firefighters.
