Report: Rob Ford is not in Chicago

A report in the Globe and Mail says Mayor Rob landed in Chicago but never officially entered the US

It seems Rob Ford is not in Chicago, after all.

A report in the Globe and Mail says the Mayor's private flight from Buttonville Airport to Chicago did indeed land in the Windy City but Ford never officially entered the United States.

According to officials, the Mayor 'withdrew his application to enter' the country.

American authorities will not say where Ford's plane went after it left Chicago, citing privacy concerns.

The Mayor's brother, Councillor Doug Ford, will not give any hints to Rob's whereabouts but the Mayor's lawyer, Dennis Morris, tells the Globe his client is in a treatment facility -- but he will not say in which country.

The Ford family lawyer insists the Mayor is getting the help he needs and that he will be in rehab for 'a number of weeks.'

I think it's interesting that the lawyer says he's in rehab but brother Doug doesn't. I bet he's not in rehab at all. But in a way talking about his addictions is just a distraction. The important thing isn't that he's an addict. The important thing is that he's a sociopath.

    Darn Rob Ford!

How many Toronto reporters now have to cancel their air and hotel bookings to Chicago.......

It may be a stretch, but perhaps the late Jim Flaherty has intervened and arranged for his 'godson' to be temporarily raptured to get some divine love form of healing.

No offence at all meant to the memory of Jim Flaherty.

As an astute observer posted on another board, Ford's personal business becomes _our_ business if he is not in rehab. He is on paid sick leave. If he is not in a clinic he is defrauding the taxpayers of Toronto.

I'm all for leaving him alone until he returns — I do wish that he gets help fighting his addictions — but when he comes back, "Mr. Transparency" had better show Toronto taxpayers a letter from the facility he attended.

@spicygarage Correction: he is on a "personal leave of absence", not "medical leave". My apology. Conveniently, this removes the burden of providing justifiying documents to his employer. To quote another discussion board:

2.12.3 Voluntary leave of absence without pay
After six months of continuous service, full-time Councillor staff
are eligible to apply for up to 20 days' leave of absence without
pay per calendar year, during which their benefits continue.

Those 20 days would be the equivalent of four weeks. More if stat Holidays are factored in.

He may also be eligible to use Lieu and Vacation time.

@spicygarage That is a fair enough comment. Well said.

@Bob Yeah! Damn these UNPAID leaves of absences — how much are they costing us, anyway?

Ah, Ford Nation — the jokes write themselves.

He has lied about everything else, why would he change now. When he returns all "clean and sober", he will need to be tested constantly to make sure he remains that way.

i hope no one actually believes a freakin word his brother or family lawyer says.
I don't believe for a second that he's in a rehab clinic. hiding and escaping from the truth is more along his style. the family and lawyer is hiding him someplace for a few weeks then make a big comeback splash that the messiah is returning home a changed man.
what reputable rehab place would release someone so effed up in the head after a few weeks or months?

@john If you parrot Rob Ford's claim to have saved the city “a billion dollars’, or believe Doug when he says Rob's in rehab despite a history of lying about his brother's condition, you really have let yourself be brainwashed by these clowns.

As I predicted, the media is already suffering from its own version of separation anxiety/withdrawal symptoms, now that they are without Ford?

What will they write/report on now? I guess it'll be back to reporting ACTUAL news. No more camping out in front of the mayor's office, roasting marshmallows.
Or sneaking behind fences, peering inside bushes, or tailing the mayor wherever he goes.

    Oh, whatever will they do?
    1. tanjo posted on 05/06/2014 12:40 PM
@Karl Burgin Well, there is a provincial election coming up. And two of the three top leaders are already munching on their own sneakers despite the fact that the campaign doesn't officially start until tomorrow. There is plenty to cover other than Rob Ford.

However, given Ford's track record, his public commitment to get help and how closely it is tied into his re-election campaign, the fact that he is not where we assumed he was is defiitely in the public interest. I don't want to spend hours on it, but it needs to be covered.
    2. Suz58 posted on 05/06/2014 06:13 PM
@tanjo I have to agree with you Tanjo and to a point Karl. This guy is just not trustworthy. I don't think we have the right to know where he is however, I do believe city hall has the right to get some kind of proof that he is in rehab.
Personally I think the way these brothers play on words is hilarious! Doug Ford today said he spoke with Rob..."he is doing good, he's working out". If he just simply went to a fat farm and is expecting to come bak after the dust settles, this will be a problem.
I do feel that the media is pushing a little hard but I also think that Rob has created much of that himself. He uses the upset of his children as an excuse to keep the press away, yet he has said that he has brought people home that were sleeping on a park bench and brings them home to sleep on his couch.
If you were worried about your child's safety, would you bring a complete stranger home? I would help them find a place to stay.

A sad commentary about the people of Ontario.

The media is saturated with stories about Ford and citizens are outraged at his lies, etc. His behaviour isn't acceptable however the city still manages to run the way it did before.

Contrast that with the province where the Liberals have lied constantly, "stole" over $ 1 Billion of OUR money, mismanaged this province almost to the point of economic ruin, yet a miniscule percentage of the press Ford has been given, AND they keep getting re-elected.

Obviously there are 2 sets of rules in play. If you're a Liberal do what you want no matter how detrimental it is to our well-being BUT, if you're Conservative we'll give you no margin for error.

    What a sorry bunch!
    1. Edwin posted on 05/06/2014 11:52 AM
@Frankie So the liberals have lied to us yes.
What has rob ford been doing? What is he doing now? And we all know, he is not in rehab. I would out money on it.

Notice how Doug commented, once again, how rod is working out and doing great. If he was really in rehab, you would think he would want people to know.
I would. If I really wanted my (quickly dwindling) voting base to really have faith in me.

Rob Ford is a compulsive liar and he is not in rehab.

@john I'll tell you what John. I'll believe our idiotic and buffoonish mayor when he, just once, tells the truth.

Like I said, and I will put money on it, that if he was in rehab, he would let people know. It would benefit him more than anything.
Hiding, will do him no good.

You tell me. Why would believe someone who as lied do damn much. Not one thing that has come out of his mouth regarding all of this, has been true! Look back. There have been lots of lies. Have there not?
    5. Karl Burgin posted on 05/06/2014 12:57 PM
@edwin Ok... now you're being moronic.
Rob Ford has only lied when it came to his personal affairs. And I don't mind- nor half the city. You know why? Because its none of our business.
The same way its none of our business what Hudak, Horwath or Wynne do in their private lives. Or what Miller or Lastman do behind close doors. As eccentric as Lastman was, you never saw a lot published of his personal live (besides some minuscule love-child story).

The problem with you people is that you somehow cannot tell the difference of the lies being told to you.
Frankie and others are pointing out the lies told by politicians that literally affect us. Why are concerned (i can't believe I have to break it down for you)? Because our tax dollars employ them to do the job they were voted in to do. As long as they aren't committing murder, or are being arrested/charged, leave the private stuff out of it.
Rob Ford is being paid tax dollars to do what he was elected to do. He wasn't running on the campaign that we would get exclusive insight to his private life, and be answerable to the media concerning all the skeletons in his closet.

If you, Arthur and Alex cannot differentiate between the two, then frankly you don't deserve to vote- other than who is your favorite American idol....

@Karl Burgin As always karl. You are quite funny.

It is our business Karl when the mayor of our city, not yours, is taking part in illegal activities. You are ok with the mayor hanging with gang members? The gang members he has sworn to kick out of the city? Isn't it a tad ironic?

it is funny that you, and a select few, are not bothered by this. Your moral compass, I believe, is way off.

Are you ok with the mayor making homophobic and racist/bigoted comments? Wait, you are likely from a small town so you are likely ok with this. ;)

Ok. So the mayor goes on about saving over one billion dollars? This is provably false. Is this a lie then? I would say yes. The mayor goes on about having the lowest unemployment. Again, provably false. another lie. I can go on, but you, with your

The thing is Karl, any employees caught doing the things he has been doing, over and over, would be fired. Rob Ford works for the city, he should be fired. But, sadly, we have to wait until the election.

Karl. The man, is gone in Oct 14.

      @Karl Burgin **** A VERY SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ****

In light of the poor job Doug has done of late with Rob's re-election bid, we unanimously appoint Karl Burgin of somewhere west of Toronto to be the official spokesman and new campaign team chair for our disgraced family member, Rob.

Karl has repeatedly proven his undying adoration for Rob and has managed to remain completely fooled by the Ford myth.

We anticipate no less than a resounding victory with Karl at the head of the re-election campaign team of 2, because, after all, he has managed to write more fantasy-like things about Rob's behaviour than any paid shill ever could.

Thank you and God bless Toronto (and Karl Burgin)

    9. Karl Burgin posted on 05/06/2014 01:59 PM
@Edwin No it is not. And I do find it interesting that you did not entertain any of the examples of the other politicians above- and as to why media hasn't gone into their closet to do some snooping. An agenda driven by the media is afoot- but let's not go there for now.

I've never said I'm ok with Ford's after-dark activities. But in your 'land of the double-standard', it seems as though outing Ford for all his troubles to make everyone look like a saint seems to be ok in your book.

As for the billion dollars, it is not provably false. Unless you want to be provably blind. Or unless you are outing Mike Del Grande and the CFO as liars as well. But let's not go there either.

There is a difference between 'caught' doing things, and aggressively going after someone to ruin them. Ford is a victim of the latter.
Again, as much as I'm disappointed at Ford for providing ammunition, he alone is not guilty in this situation we find ourselves.

And yes, Rob Ford works for the city. But he should be voted in/out. Not fired. Not given a side-kick in Kelly. And not chased by maggots (nor apologize for calling them that).

Hope to see you on Oct. 14

@Karl Burgin I don't know Karl. Look here.

      Here is some more:

During a technical briefing for media Monday, Pennachetti and city chief financial officer Rob Rossini went over both Ford and Miller’s fiscal records. Ford’s boast of saving taxpayers $1 billion — a key part of his re-election bid — isn’t correct, Pennachetti said.

“He can say that he saved more relative to expenditure reductions relative to other mayors,” Pennachetti said. “But in terms of budget savings being $1 billion, that is misleading compared to previous administrations.”

@Frankie I'm glad you put “stole” in scare quotes, since by any reasonable definition there was no theft involved. Would you have considered the money “stolen” if it had been the Conservatives or NDP fulfilling their promises to kill gas plants for the same nakedly political reasons?
    12. Karl Burgin posted on 05/06/2014 03:24 PM
@ACMESalesRep Aside from the NDP being a clone (or drone) of the Liberals by propping up their corrupt provincial government, let's accuse both the Conservatives and the NDP for a scandal they never committed- and for the cover-up they never took park in. And let the Liberals off the hook for a scandal they're responsible for- but the other two parties would have done.
And let's also let up be down, and down be up. And the sky should be yellow, and our oceans purple.
Because in your alternate reality, according to the logic you just spewed, that makes plenty sense.
    13. Karl Burgin posted on 05/06/2014 03:38 PM
@Edwin Your source is the Toronto telling.

      Ok then, let's dance:

*During the interview with Conrad Black, he conservatively surmised that Ford saved the city in the are of $672 million
*During the interview on AM 640 this morning, Sue Ann Levy pointed out that it is true that Ford saved the city $1 Billion dollars. She also pointed out the CFO confirms those numbers, along with Mike Del Grande. And this was after the host made the point if this is true despite the fact that there are so many who say Ford didn't save the $1 Billion dollars
      * During Rob Ford show (The City- yeah, remember that?), the CFO personally came on and confirmed that it was $1 Billion dollars saved.

If you're saying Ford is full of lies on this, then there must be some conspiracy, if the other two gentlemen multiple times who are DIRECTLY involved with the finances of the city of Toronto, are lying as well.

But feel free EDWIN to send some more 'facts' from your Toronto Star (or any other left-wing leaning media), that also don't have any admitted public vendetta against the mayor Rob Ford. Because I'm sure that's something we could easy overlook.

Then a light session with the therapist.. breaks for salad lunch.. take a nap..
and the cycle begins in the late afternoon..

Trust me,, he is doing fine and in rehab

@Edwin 1.> If part of your last quote was from the Sun, then it shows you don;t know how to reference
2.> If the topic is on Rob Ford, I take any report from the Star on the matter as serious as I am interested in Kim's relationship with Kanye West. From the day they competed with Gawker to run a story on Ford without anything substantial, was the day they put their interests first before being objective about the news. And as a national news media, they should have known better- and done better. They threw their ethics to the side to appease to their obsessive vendetta- they set the tone for the rest of the media in Toronto. "Sexy" sells and that's all that matters. Then so be it. They will lose a good portion of their readership (and trust me, I'm not the only one), and will venture elsewhere for news.
      Thank God for choice...
