Report: Rob Ford is not in Chicago

A report in the Globe and Mail says Mayor Rob landed in Chicago but never officially entered the US

It seems Rob Ford is not in Chicago, after all.

A report in the Globe and Mail says the Mayor's private flight from Buttonville Airport to Chicago did indeed land in the Windy City but Ford never officially entered the United States.

According to officials, the Mayor 'withdrew his application to enter' the country.

American authorities will not say where Ford's plane went after it left Chicago, citing privacy concerns.

The Mayor's brother, Councillor Doug Ford, will not give any hints to Rob's whereabouts but the Mayor's lawyer, Dennis Morris, tells the Globe his client is in a treatment facility -- but he will not say in which country.

The Ford family lawyer insists the Mayor is getting the help he needs and that he will be in rehab for 'a number of weeks.'

I think it's interesting that the lawyer says he's in rehab but brother Doug doesn't. I bet he's not in rehab at all. But in a way talking about his addictions is just a distraction. The important thing isn't that he's an addict. The important thing is that he's a sociopath.

    Darn Rob Ford!

How many Toronto reporters now have to cancel their air and hotel bookings to Chicago.......

It may be a stretch, but perhaps the late Jim Flaherty has intervened and arranged for his 'godson' to be temporarily raptured to get some divine love form of healing.

No offence at all meant to the memory of Jim Flaherty.

As an astute observer posted on another board, Ford's personal business becomes _our_ business if he is not in rehab. He is on paid sick leave. If he is not in a clinic he is defrauding the taxpayers of Toronto.

I'm all for leaving him alone until he returns — I do wish that he gets help fighting his addictions — but when he comes back, "Mr. Transparency" had better show Toronto taxpayers a letter from the facility he attended.

@spicygarage Correction: he is on a "personal leave of absence", not "medical leave". My apology. Conveniently, this removes the burden of providing justifiying documents to his employer. To quote another discussion board:

2.12.3 Voluntary leave of absence without pay
After six months of continuous service, full-time Councillor staff
are eligible to apply for up to 20 days' leave of absence without
pay per calendar year, during which their benefits continue.
      http://www1.toronto.ca/city_of_toron...ndbook_ext.pdf

Those 20 days would be the equivalent of four weeks. More if stat Holidays are factored in.

He may also be eligible to use Lieu and Vacation time.

@spicygarage That is a fair enough comment. Well said.

He has lied about everything else, why would he change now. When he returns all "clean and sober", he will need to be tested constantly to make sure he remains that way.

i hope no one actually believes a freakin word his brother or family lawyer says.
I don't believe for a second that he's in a rehab clinic. hiding and escaping from the truth is more along his style. the family and lawyer is hiding him someplace for a few weeks then make a big comeback splash that the messiah is returning home a changed man.
what reputable rehab place would release someone so effed up in the head after a few weeks or months?

As I predicted, the media is already suffering from its own version of separation anxiety/withdrawal symptoms, now that they are without Ford?

What will they write/report on now? I guess it'll be back to reporting ACTUAL news. No more camping out in front of the mayor's office, roasting marshmallows.
Or sneaking behind fences, peering inside bushes, or tailing the mayor wherever he goes.

    Oh, whatever will they do?

@Karl Burgin Well, there is a provincial election coming up. And two of the three top leaders are already munching on their own sneakers despite the fact that the campaign doesn't officially start until tomorrow. There is plenty to cover other than Rob Ford.

However, given Ford's track record, his public commitment to get help and how closely it is tied into his re-election campaign, the fact that he is not where we assumed he was is defiitely in the public interest. I don't want to spend hours on it, but it needs to be covered.

A sad commentary about the people of Ontario.

The media is saturated with stories about Ford and citizens are outraged at his lies, etc. His behaviour isn't acceptable however the city still manages to run the way it did before.

Contrast that with the province where the Liberals have lied constantly, "stole" over $ 1 Billion of OUR money, mismanaged this province almost to the point of economic ruin, yet a miniscule percentage of the press Ford has been given, AND they keep getting re-elected.

Obviously there are 2 sets of rules in play. If you're a Liberal do what you want no matter how detrimental it is to our well-being BUT, if you're Conservative we'll give you no margin for error.

    What a sorry bunch!

@Frankie So the liberals have lied to us yes.
What has rob ford been doing? What is he doing now? And we all know, he is not in rehab. I would out money on it.

Notice how Doug commented, once again, how rod is working out and doing great. If he was really in rehab, you would think he would want people to know.
I would. If I really wanted my (quickly dwindling) voting base to really have faith in me.

Rob Ford is a compulsive liar and he is not in rehab.

@Frankie I'm glad you put “stole” in scare quotes, since by any reasonable definition there was no theft involved. Would you have considered the money “stolen” if it had been the Conservatives or NDP fulfilling their promises to kill gas plants for the same nakedly political reasons?
