Girl, 9, killed in crash between car and farm vehicle

Four other people hurt

A nine-year-old girl is dead after a collision between a car and a farm vehicle Sunday south of Woodstock, Ont.

Provincial police say a Terra-Gator fertilizer sprayer collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction in Otterville just after 9 a.m.

A woman, who was driving the car, and three children who were also in the vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the driver of the sprayer wasn't hurt.

On Thursday and Friday last week I had to go onto the grass and dirt on the side of the road to avoid a collision with two separate farmers driving huge machines that were taking up almost the whole two lane road. It is far past time that these oversized machines are stopped from using the road. It is fine if a small tractor that only takes up one lane drives slowly down a country road but not these monstrosities that mega farm corporations are using. They destroy the road and obviously are a danger to the rest of us.

@Brett Brett, this response in no bares any malice to your comment. But...,

It's not really fair to go to their area and tell them they can no longer use a thoroughfare once used almost exclusively by them for maintaining their farmland. It is unfortunate. Perhaps closing the roads to regular automobile traffic during certain times of the day would help everyone.

If an accident like this one makes you suggest this course of action, perhaps outlawing SUV's during rush hour or in winter storms might be appropriate as well since so many drivers miss the point of all-wheel-drive.

      Drive safely everyone... Paul
