Death toll reaches 282 in Turkey

Toll is expected to climb as 150 miners remain missing

The death toll in Turkey's mining disaster has reached 282, and
hopes are fading for 150 other miners still trapped deep underground
for two full days.

The still smouldering tunnels are filled with toxic gases, forcing rescuers to halt operations for hours at a time to clear the air.

The disaster has provoked anti-government protests in the mining
town of Soma, as well as in Istanbul and Ankara.
