A crash involving a dump truck has snarled traffic along the 401 this evening.

Toronto Fire say the call came into them at around 4:30, and when they arrived on scene they found a dump truck on its side, with a load of gravel or sand all over the road.

For some unknown reason, the driver of the truck lost control, striking several vehicles before tipping over and landing on a car, dumping sand into the damaged vehicle.

One man was killed, and three other people were taken to hospital with what paramedics describe as minor injuries.

OPP say that 9 other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Officers closed the eastbound side of the 401, in the express at Avenue road to the Allen, and believe it could be closed until at least 10 PM.

All I can say is how HAPPY I am that I moved to Hamilton a year ago after working in downtown TO as a lawyer for 35 years!!! There are no conversations about traffic here.....all the main streets are essentially one way with synchronized lights; thus making all the side streets TWO WAY!!!!!!! I truly feel sorry for all my colleagues I left behind in an never ending traffic jam.
