UPDATE: 44-year old man dies in 6-vehicle crash in Etobicoke

A 44-year old man is dead and 3 other people are hurt after a 6-vehicle crash at Highway 27 and Belfield Road

Toronto Police say a 44-year old man is dead after a crash in Etobicoke on Wednesday morning.

3 others were taken to hospital and are expected to recover.

The name of the 44-year old has not been released but authorities say he is from somewhere in the greater Toronto area.

Toronto Police Cst. Clint Stibbe says around 6:15am, 6 vehicles came together near the intersection of Highway 27 and Belfield Road.

A 61-year old man was driving a Ford Escape southbound on Highway 27, approaching Belfield, when he failed to stop while entering the left turn lane.

The 44-year-old victim was driving a Mazda Protege and was already in the left turn lane when the Ford struck his vehicle from behind and forced him into the oncoming lane.

That caused a chain-reaction collision, involving 4 other vehicles.

The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at hospital.

Highway 27 between Rexdale Boulevard and Dixon Road was closed and Belfield Road was closed approaching Highway 27 for several hours.

Police are investigating.

There is no word yet on whether charges might be coming.
