WestJet implements electronic device changes

You can now use your smartphones in flight mode while on WestJet and Air Canada flights

The next time you fly using WestJet Airlines, you will be able to use your smartphone in the air.

The company announced today its passengers can now use their portable electronic devices during flights.

The devices have to be in non-transmitting or flight mode.

Last week, transport minister Lisa Raitt announced changes to federal rules, allowing the use of smartphones, tablets and e-readers on planes.

Air Canada has also implemented the changes.
