UPDATE: Clerical error snatches Thornhill riding from Liberal in favour of PC

Liberals want judicial recount

Elections Ontario has declared the Progressive Conservatives the winner in the riding of Thornhill after the discovery of an error in the vote tally up-ended what was initially declared a Liberal victory.

Spokesman Andrew Willis says the "official tabulation" of the results done on Friday has found PC incumbent Gila Martow was the winner by 85 votes.

The initial count done on election night had given the seat, which sits north of Toronto, to Liberal Sandra Yeung Racco by that very same margin.

That means the election results, which are still considered preliminary, now have Ontario's Liberals with 58 seats compared to 28 for the Tories.

Willis says the new outcome is the result of a "very comprehensive review" of the vote calculation that found a minor clerical error.

The change doesn't affect the status of the Liberal majority government.

Willis said Saturday that the Thornhill riding was the only one to have such a tabulation error.

Yeung Racco says she is disappointed and will be requesting a judicial
recount.

@mitch You mean like the corrupt PC's in the federal cabinet?
Heard of the robocall scandal yet? If you want to discuss true corruption, shouldn't we look at some of these things?

You are all the same. Steering away from the reality of your own twisted world and logic.

@Edwin Since we're al about deflecting, then I'm going to counter with this:
The federal PCs didn't blow a billion dollars on gas plants.
The federal PCs didn't trying to cover-up evidence from the police force investigating them.
The federal PCs may have a few scandals. But nowhere near the laundry list of scandals that have plagued the provincial Liberals.
If the provincial Liberals and the Federal PCs swapped places, Canada would be bankrupt.

So in the end you are right Edwin- our reality is a twisted world. Where the Liberals can do so much damage to one province, but yet still win with a majority. Twisted indeed.

While Wynne may have won the election battle, she cannot win the war to bring Ontario back to prosperity based on her stated policies. Over spending, increased taxation, increased borrowing, and increasing an ineffective civil service. As Bob Rae learned, ultimately to be a leader, you have to do what is right, which is not necessarily based on wild promises made during an election.

Lets see how happy the OPP are when she cant give them the promised 8% raise because the entire public sector will demand it. Or if she has to lay off 8% of the civil service in order to be able to give the rest an 8% raise. Lets see how happy individuals will be when they have the Ont Pension Plan premiums deducted from their paycheques, reducing take home pay, for little down the road benefit.

Wynne made more promises than she will be able to keep because she didnt think she will be re-elected. The chickens will come home to roost!

A phone call to the Mark Tewey show today characterizes the flawed thinking of those (twenty something's) that put Wynne in power. This young man - a recent university grad is self employed. He praised the proposed new Ontario pension plan because it will force him to contribute to a pension. Yet he refuses to contribute to RRSP's and seems oblivious to the contribution requirements of CPP. His whole point was that Wynne will force him to save money he otherwise cant save.

Oh really? So why don't you maximize your CPP contribution first? Or RRSP? An Ontaro pension plan is not guaranteed to return a better rate of return than those plans. Even the CPP is horrible in its return. In my case my wife and I being self employed would have to contribute $8000 per year total between now -age 53 and 65 only to increase each of our cpp pensions by $26 per month. sounds like these plans suck!

@Ernie If this guy, like you stated, is self employed, he really did not know WHAT he s doing.. or thinking.. with regards to CPP or the new proposed Ontario Pension Plan..

As a self employed "employee", you can save your retirement within your company, paying yourself less to save taxes..

paying yourself more, you pay a higher CPP which you are contributing twice.. (the employee portion and company's portion, which is yourself)
      why?

CPP is not enough to retire on, even if you collect the maximum amount, you need company's pension(if you are lucky to work for one) and RRSP savings and TFSA..

Ontario Pension Plan,, the Liberal will squander that away before you collect in in 2017..I would not trust my money with the Liberal..

I feel for the liberal candidate, here. Here she was, thinking that she was finally at the trough, only to be punted at the last second when it was found there was a clerical error. Man, that would be rough.

@Angry Bill No offence to the pigs- who are considered the cleanest animals in the animal kingdom.
Pigs worldwide must be thinking, "How the heck did we get affiliated with such a corrupted group of people".

Liberals = Monkey's asses, would be much more fitting.
