EXCLUSIVE: Ford has sobriety coach

The mayor gets counselling from him whenever he needs it

Rob Ford is still getting help now that he's back in town.

Newstalk1010 has learned that the Mayor travels with a professional sobriety coach.

The job of that coach is to counsel the mayor 24/7.

Addiction Counsellor and Newstalk 1010 Host Mark Elliott says the coach typically travels with high profile people who are fresh from rehab. The key purpose of that person - to prevent someone from relapsing.

Elliott explains it can be someone who is professionally trained or who has been through the same issues. He says it also helps in stressful situations.

The duties of a sobriety coach vary from person to person. Some live with the recovering addict and others stay around during the day and are on call at night. The coach, in general, would get the recovering addict to to meetings, talk to them and be with them when they travel.

All of this it doesn't come cheap. As an example, Elliott explains his daily rate is $2,500.

He believes Ford would benefit from a sobriety coach for at least six months.

At Elliott's rate, that would cost  $450,000 for that time period.

Ford's coach is well respected and has worked with professionals, celebrities and other high profile clients in the past.

Well. Of COURSE he is going to have one. Isn't that AA 101? I am glad to hear he is taking at least that part seriously.

Although, "travels with" is kindof weird. That might turn to be that he is "available 2/47". Unless they recognize he is such a high risk that he needs someone there all the time, for the short term.

Either way, it's a good thing.

@tanjo ya a good thing.. he needs those type of support for now..
, it is hard trying to kick a habit.. i bet many have tried quitting smoking
and we are talking drugs and alcohol, these are harder to kick..

Rob needs to just. .go in early to work, serves the people who call him .. go back home after work, spend time with his family..STOP associating with his old drug buddies.. if he can stick to this routine, he will be alright..

    Ford has sobriety coach.
    Who cares.
Just because of this you deserve to get away with your behaviour?

If you had a real job you would have been fired years ago.

Isn't it Doug Ford (the campaign manager) saying that others on the campaign are "elitest" But isn't it only the very wealthy and "elitest" that can afford a "sobriety coach"? Others must truly struggle one day at a time.

Unfortunately, he's cheap, so they're going with a three-person committee of Mikey Ford, Ben Johnson, and Sam from Trailer Park Boys.
