Protesters Shout Down Rob Ford

Shirtless demonstrators disrupt Rob Ford's press conference

Rob Ford's attempt to rail against a new plan to revamp Eglinton Ave. when the LRT is built was derailed by a handful of shirtless protesters.

As Ford delivered a prepared speech on Eglinton near the Allen, protesters repeated shouted "RESIGN" directly behind him.

This is same group of protesters that heckled the Mayor outside of Newstalk 1010's downtown studios during Ford's interview with Jerry Agar last week.

Do you detect a whiff of Dalton McGuinty from these unshirted ones? Or maybe it's Kathleen Wynne? Could even be "essence of union leader". Hard to distinguish 1 professional parasite from another.
    1. tanjo posted on 07/08/2014 10:00 AM
@FPSC Yeah, all the similar writing on the signs do look rather suspicious. I think it is organized, but I think a union would probably know enough to use different handwriting.

@FPSC You Ford supporters crack me up. Conspiracy theories with Wynne/McGuinty, calling every critic a member of the Looney Left, etc. Do you actually think your campaign has any respect? It's the laughing stock of Toronto, and these comments further reiterate just how out to lunch you guys are.

I was originally not particularly comfortable with people shouting the mayor down, but then I thought about it. This is a mayor who thrives in chaos. In council, he is happiest when there are people running around shouting each other down.

I also consider the protests the natural consequences of his decision not to step down. He has ignored the rules, and disrespected our laws. He is polarizing figure that prompts strong reactions. I hope he realizes soon that a lot more people are polarized against him than for him.

Finally, this was a grandstand move, plain and simple. The exact same thing will be going before council today, and he could have said exactly the same thing in a public forum without the protesters, and it's not like anyone couldn't guess what he was going to say anyway. This was strictly a photo op so that his name and picture would be first in line.

So, yeah, all's fair in love and war ...

This protest was fantastic. Because everything else has been tried and nothing really worked, not the protests at City Hall, not the sit-in mainly because they've been too quiet ... So I say "have at 'im!". Good for the half-nakeds, keep it up! Stare the man down and let's get him off this campaign and away from City Hall once and for all!
    1. tanjo posted on 07/08/2014 11:57 AM
@SJT They do add a little bit of character to the campaign. Or they ARE characters. Doesn't matter which, they are very entertaining.

Because nothing says "I am a rational adult with an educated opinion" like taking your shirt off and screaming.
    1. Mark7 posted on 07/08/2014 11:04 AM
@Dean You mean like when Rob Ford took off his shirt and started screaming when in a drunken stupor? Like when he took off all of his clothes and started screaming when in his office?

      Is that what you mean?
    2. tanjo posted on 07/08/2014 12:10 PM
@Dean No, but it fits the "I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it any more!" motif quite well.

Remember when Ford Nation shouted down Smitherman during the last election (for his admitted use of party drugs during the 80's - Screaming that a one-time drug user has NO PLACE in politics? Payback is a pain - especially when nobody will listen to you.

Looks like Tory will take it . Rob's support has collapsed.

And duhh- yes these protesters are organized. They are re-using the same signs they used outside 1010 on Friday.

Though, Unions do not fund crowds, rather those with political interests do.

So did John or Olivia pull and pay this crowd?

News for you guys - any screaming crowd you find in front of TV cameras don't just magically appear. They are organized and call the media to tell them they will be there. In many cases when they are relatively small, and extremely vocal - they are funded to be there. Ford Nation did the same in the last election. Everyone does... It's called "Rent a Crowd."

Also - didn't Ford's PR guy look ridiculous trying to stand in front of the protester?
    Time to walk away..
    1. tanjo posted on 07/08/2014 12:24 PM
@justsaying What IS Jacob's doing getting all in that guy's face? Does it look like he is trying to start a physical confrontation?

No doubt they are organized though, but I don't think by any of the campaigns. Tory's camp was barely able to get a press release out ahead of time and the others seem to have been caught flat-footed.

... and the unions would never condone anyone going "shirtless" too politically incorrect!

Ford should expect a lot more of this if he doesn't resign which i hope he doesn't. he needs to beaten bad on Oct. 27 so he knows what the voters feel.
people are letting their frustrations out at being played for fools by this man for the last 4 years. i don't blame them
    1. john posted on 07/08/2014 11:12 AM
@arthur typical liberal brown nose ass kisser . no clue what he is talking about . ford is the best mayor u guys have got .
    2. terri posted on 07/08/2014 03:30 PM
@arthur The public knows that Ford is the only thing standing between them and endless tax hikes, arrogant foolish city spending and slow no-go LRTs in the middle of traffic in modest neighborhoods.

Give the man a chance. He halted the gravy train, even while ill. I think he can do wonders when not hampered by them.

In the meantime, I'd like to know exactly who these hecklers are? NO matter, they can be blocked with a handful fo supporters with signs.

@john I take it you are from Brampton? No thanks! Seriously, between the two of them, I will keep the one we have!

However, after October, we will have some highly qualified leftovers!

Shirtless Protesters + Senseless Voters = Liberal Majority at Queen's Park

The shirtless ones have a point, though. Klepto-Liberals and their union leader allies work hard to siphon off more and more money from hardworking taxpayers and they don't need mean dudes like Rob Ford getting in the way.

He DOES NOT have the right to drown out the speaker, he has invaded everyone's right to be there to speak or to listen to the speaker...Toronto cops should hang their heads in shame, they are not doing their jobs at all...same with the riot at Palestinian House last weekend, they just stood around like stooges...taking the path of least resistance, that's our cops these days, and well paid at that..I used to have great respect for our police but it's dissipating rapidly.

@sally "I used to have great respect for our police but it's dissipating rapidly"

Dissipating rapidly??? mine has dissipated a long while ago when they were/are trigger happy.. .. Yathim case in one of the major one..

Back on point: That shirtless guy has the right to speak his mind but he really didnt speak at all beside chanting resign.. resign and as if Rob Ford will resign.. what a tool !!! watching it has me annoyed with him and to me he is really rude..

Would you like your 3 or 5 year old to chant a word repeatively when you want to have a conversation with your friends? You probably would have send him or her away.. but in this instance.. Rob Ford handlers tried that to no avail for they would not want to come across as aggressive bully ..
  20. dama posted on 07/08/2014 02:23 PM
This thing might turn negative for the protester for there will be voters feeling sorry for Rob Ford due to the rudeness of these protester and might vote for Rob Ford to spite these people..

Granted Rob Ford is not a saint.. we al knew his faults and if you dnt think he has change, don't vote for him... this will turn violent easily..

Today's poll have JT leading at 39% and Rob Ford at 22% and if you believe in poll.. you dont have to waste your time and energy protesting .. unless you have to much time to waste.. lol

@dama The pity card was played months ago.

Since the "Shirtless Horde" is protesting Ford's unwillingness to answer questions, I don't think his current popularity numbers actually figures into their decision to protest or not.

    1. Mark7 posted on 07/08/2014 02:52 PM
@MarkR Democracy sucks, eh? Rob Ford deserves everything he gets, having done the same thing and more. He should learn to STFU and take his medicine like a grown up...and tell his brother to do the same.

But the guy says he runs a consulting company and he could make up his hours if need be.

What we should do is demand the name of his company, go shirtless in front of it, and call on him to resign- since he is setting a bad example.

@Karl Burgin Hey Karl. Get typing! You have a lot of catching up to do!

1> Keep in mind that the Liberals we *know* are guilty all resigned or were booted. Wynn has diffused the anger somewhat where Ford just seems to pour gasoline on the fire.

2> The Shirtless Horde, while rude, have not been anywhere near as grotesquely offensive as donny p. They are expressing anger, not insults.

3> Yes, they are trying to pin this on a campaign. The problem is, and it's a BIG one: The guy looks like Les Nessman! You just can't hate Les Nessman, Big Guy!
