The city may have some good news when it comes to the construction on the Gardiner and the traffic headaches you're getting because of it.

Newstalk 1010 has learned that the first phase of the roadwork, which was scheduled to be finished in September/October, may actually be done in August.

General Manager of Transportation Services at the City of Toronto Steve Buckley says he's cautiously optimistic that they can get the work done before the Ex at the CNE, which starts on August 15th.

While Buckley says there will still be construction going on, finishing up the work on the median will likely get rid of some of the bottlenecks you've been experiencing. He says that's because they can keep the gate to the Jameson offramp open.

He says it really all depends on the weather. If there are weeks of rain, crews may not be able to finish early.
