The Toronto Maple Leafs and Cody Franson have avoided arbitration with a one-year contract worth US$3.3 million.

It's the third straight one-year deal for Franson, who missed most of training camp last season after a contract dispute.

With this one, the 26-year-old gets a raise from the $2-million he made in 2013-14, when he led all Toronto defencemen with 33 points.

Franson, a third-round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2005, has 28 goals and 105 assists in 333 career NHL games.

"when he led all Toronto defencemen with 33 points."

so almost go to arbitration? and why ONLY one year contract since he is the leading point getter as a defence man? Is Phaneuf (sic) over paid then?

Brutal reporting, left out the facts, Franson was a minus 20 player, second worst behind Gleeson, whom they paid $800k to go away. He also contributed with his poor play to the end of season collapse. He has also knocked heads with the Leafs in every contract negotiation since joining the team. The Leafs reward their second worst player by paying him double what they paid him in the two previous years!! This will be another banner year Leaf Fans!!! LOL
