WATCH: Liberal MPP has plan to get guns off the streets
Mike Colle wants stricter laws for illegal guns found in cars

One Toronto-area Liberal MPP is trying for the third time to get guns off the streets. Mike Colle says he wants to give police officers the power to impound a car and take away someone's driver's licence if they have an illegal gun in the vehicle.

The backbencher says federal laws are weak when it comes to this kind of thing. He says right now, it's almost impossible for police to get any kind of conviction under the Federal Criminal Code for anyone found to have an illegal handgun in their car.

Colle stresses he's not targeting legal gun owners, just those who are driving around with unregistered or stolen guns.

He believes those in his party support this idea. This is first time introducing the bill in a majority government.
