Toronto Fire have confirmed, a man died after becoming trapped in a trench on Thursday, when the walls of the trench collapsed.

There's no word on the mans age or his identity.

It happened at a home under construction at 24 Venn Crescent, near Eglinton and Caledonia in the city's west end.

Fire officials say it appeared to be a utility trench that stretched from the street, back to the house.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
