12-hour truce underway in Gaza

The lull is to allow victims of the 18-day battle to get access to food, water and other humanitarian aid.

It appears Israeli forces and Hamas militants in Gaza are honouring a 12-hour ceasefire that took effect at 1 am ET.

The lull is to allow victims of the 18-day battle to get access to food, water and other humanitarian aid.

Both sides agreed to pause the fighting after U-S Secretary of State John Kerry failed to broker a week-long truce.

Almost 900 Palestinians and 40 Israelis have been killed since the fighting began two and-a-half weeks ago.
