TSN is reporting the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed free agent defenceman Jake Gardiner to a 5-year extension worth $20.25 million Tuesday.

Last season, the 24 year old scored 10 goals and 11 assists with the Leafs.

Gardiner was acquired by the Leafs along with Joffrey Lupul from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Francois Beauchemin in 2011.

The Minnesota native also won a gold medal as a member of the American team at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship, and named to the NHL's All-Rookie Team in 2011-12.
