Death toll from Chinese earthquake rises to 367

Close to 1900 people hurt

China's official Xinhua News Agency says the death toll from a strong earthquake in southern Yunnan province has risen to 367.

The news agency says that according to rescuers, 1,881 other people were injured in the quake, which topped thousands of homes in Ludian, a densely populated county located around 366 kilometres (277 miles) northeast of Yunnan's capital, Kunming.

The magnitude-6.1 quake struck at 4:30 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometres (6 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
