A 40-year-old Bradford, Ontario man has now been identified as Joey Pellegrino. Pelegrino turned himself in after an 82-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle and killed on the southbound 400 Highway near King Road.

Provincial police say 82-year-old Chandrowci Basdeo was struck and killed around 4:20 a.m. Thursday.

The woman's family had last seen the woman at about 10 o'clock Wednesday night, but noticed that she was missing at around 4a.m. Thursday.  They say the woman has wandered off in the past and was experiencing symptoms of dementia.

Police had been looking for a 2010 grey Ford Escape with the passenger side mirror missing and damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The OPP said thursday morning that it was possible that the driver didn't know that they had struck a person, but the charges now tell a different story.

Police say the Pellegrino is facing a charge of Failing to Stop at a Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Death.

Investigators say the man will remain in custody until a bail hearing on Friday.
