Council bans right turns on red in Leaside

Motion introduced after 7 year old girl died in accident

It was back in July, when 7 year old Georgia Walsh was killed after a driver hit her, while she crossed the intersection of Millwood and McRae.

The 50 year old driver has since been charged with failing to stop at a red light, and careless driving.

Toronto councillors approved a motion Monday that may have prevented the incident from happening.

Council has banned right hand turns on red lights in the intersection of Millwood and McRae.

Walsh was the daughter of Conservative Party president John Walsh.

Not sure what the new law would accomplish. Laws only work if people obey them. This driver ALREADY didn't obey the law when he didn't stop at the red light before turning. I'm also kind of surprised he didn't get charged with vehicular manslaughter, or whatever the Canadian equivalent is.
