The Olympic Torch, which is continuing its journey across Canada to Vancouver for the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics, will be traveling through Toronto from December 17 to 19.

To accommodate this once-in-a-lifetime- event, a series of rolling road closures will be required to ensure the safety of both the torchbearers and the public as the Olympic Flame travels through Toronto. Toronto's Transportation Services and Toronto Police Service will be coordinating the road closures and will be reopening roads as soon as the relay leaves an area in order to minimize disruption to the public.

"Toronto is honoured to participate in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay - and we encourage everyone to join us in welcoming the Olympic Flame to the city," said Councillor Adrian Heaps (Ward 35 Scarborough Southwest) chair of the Toronto Olympic Torch Relay Community Task Force. "However, there will be some delays as the Olympic Flame moves through the city so we are asking residents to be patient, take extra time to get where they need to go that day and use public transit wherever possible."
