Toronto Denies Plans To Rid Itself Of Ski Hills And Other Facilities

The Toronto Civic Workers unions are raising a red flag about possible program cuts by city council.
CUPE Local 79 President Ann Dembinski says the city is planning to get rid of some recreation facilities and programs including: the two public ski hills at Earl Bales Park and Centennial Park as well as the Glen Rouge campground.
She warns that operations will be affected by the city's staffing cuts and in her words "the public won't know a thing until the decisions have been made, whether they're about ski hills or long-term care, public health or children's services."
In a news release Monday afternoon the city confirmed Earl Bales and Centennial ski hills, and Glen Rouge Campground would remain open and under city ownership.
The City of Toronto confirmed that proposals to change the operations of the Earl Bales and Centennial Park ski hills and Glen Rouge Campground will be considered as part of budget process.
Staff made the proposals as part of the beginning of the budget process. This proposal would not see any of these facilities closed or sold off.
