Nobel; The Award for NOT being George Bush
Nobel; The Award for NOT being George Bush
World to Barack: You Had Me At Hello.
Norway, hot off the heals of winning the UN designation of "Best Country to Live in", makes the rest of the world wonder what is going on over there? Obama is the 2009 Nobel laureate. Although the UN does have about as much credibility as the Nobel Committee of Oslo. Critics say this is premature--he is peaking to early to say the least. I am not going to say the least,so that is why I will continue to write......
So what is the deal with Norway ? Maybe Norway needs to take a long walk around a fjord (you know long, narrow inlets with steep sides, created in a valley carved by glacial activity) while eating a meatball samich and think about this Peace Prize. Call us back when you can separate hope from achievement . They must have counted the Beer Summit.
Norway is home to more Norweigian or Norweigites or Norweigoians or Norwegians then anywhere in the world. They invented the paper clip, aerosol spray and Vendela Kirsebom. Barrack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize winner? When I heard Obama was the 2009 winner I thought whaa happened? Are we being "Punked "? Are they giving these things out in the bottom of a cracker jack box? Can you get one if I am the 10th caller? Presidents don't deserve awards thrown at them. They deserve shoes thrown at them.
Pundits are Outraged. Rush Limbaugh: "The Nobel Gang Just Suicide-Bombed Themselves". Brian Kilmeade of FOX NEWS wonders whether Obama delayed his decision on sending more troops to Afghanistan to win the Nobel. John Bolton, former ambassador to the U.N., said Obama should decline the prize. RedState's Erick Erickson went for the race card, suggesting President Obama must have been picked to meet some Nobel Peace Prize "affirmative action quota. And the smartest guy in the room, Glenn Beck, says "Obama doesn't deserve the prize, but the Tea Party protesters do." He credited an "extraordinarily powerful" global progressive network for bagging Obama the win. (????)
I like anyone who is for peace. I admire his hope for improved relations with the Muslim world and Russia . Tensions between East - West are marginally better but this cannot count as an accomplishment can it ?
Are people so head over heals in love that they will let this get the better of their judgement? Intentions are important but surly we must measure results. Can he credibly give this acceptance speech for a prize for peace while over seeing two on going wars? Plus,he just launched a missile strike at the Moon . Some have called it the committees attempt to sway and influence. Stating it is obviously politically motivated and partisan. The award gives a big middle figure to George W. Bush. A kick in the groin to anyone who believes in American Exceptionalism
The Five that make up the Norwegian Nobel Committee said they honored Obama for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" In their citation that they had attached "special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons". Then I thought that this is going to diminish former Nobel Laureates like Al Gore( won for a movie) Yasser Arafat ( who won for faking he liked Israel) and Henry A. Kissinger (Seen as someone who did more to promote the Vietnam War. The award was viewed as giving Nixon thought an intellectual setting)
This must be kept in perspective. The Nobel committee didn't get us into a needless 39 day garbage strike. They didn't spend 1 billion dollars on eHealth with nothing to show for it. They didn't cause us NOT to win a stanley Cup since 1967. They MAY have changed the parameters of an award THEY give out. There has been outrage before and there will be again. Since his campaign started Obama has produced a new climate, changing the tone around the World. One that focuses on multilateral institutions, dialog, negotiations, democracy and human rights. Those things do reflex the ideals of the one hundred plus year old Nobel Committee.
And that is why I agree with the committee. Given the reasons they gave it DOES make sense. I do not think that there is anyway that people could claim his election in November did not his bring optimism and hope with his stated engagement rather than isolationist approach.Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) said the award is a "recognition of President Obama's work to strengthen international cooperation. It validates the president's approach to tough trans-national challenges such as global warming and the spread of nuclear arms. And it celebrates his steady efforts to improve America's standing around the world". Desmond Tutu, the former prize winner stated "It is an award that speaks to the promise of President Obama's message of hope". Obama being honoured for defending the rule of law should put some pressure on him to get some things done in the Middle East.
Birthers may now wanna look at the envelop used when they announced his name. It has been viewed as a down payment for future peace. A loan he may not be able to pay off to become the next Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King.Jr.
In the meantime, the White House is preparing a formal response to the Nobel Peace Prize announcement. Right now they are hoping that Kanye West will jump in at any second "Imma Let You Finish, but Chinese dissident Hu Jia had one of the best human rights years of all time".
I would like to extend my thoughts to the President for his 2010 Miss Universe title. Now THAT is an organization that recognizes someone who wants world peace!
