Save the children
With my arms around my precious daughter the image of Tori Stafford sends a chill through the warmth of the moment.
Every morning, as I prepare to go out the door at 5:30, my daughter hauls herself out of bed and down the stairs to kiss me goodbye.
I treasure my good fortune. I fear how quickly it can turn.
Monsters walk among us. It is every parent’s fear.
Tori’s mother, Tara McDonald said in the wake of Michael Rafferty’s conviction for Tori’s murder: “We finally have peace. We can finally rest.”
That’s good, but this crime could have been prevented.
The system, through great police work and a solid prosecution, sent two killers to prison for a minimum of 25 years.
But the system failed Tori when it released Teri-Lynn McClintic from custody where, while serving time for stabbing her robbery victims, she wrote over 100 letters screaming her desire to torture, maim and kill.
She fulfilled that desire with the murder of Tori Stafford.
