Save the children

With my arms around my precious daughter the image of Tori Stafford sends a chill through the warmth of the moment.

Every morning, as I prepare to go out the door at 5:30, my daughter hauls herself out of bed and down the stairs to kiss me goodbye.

I treasure my good fortune. I fear how quickly it can turn.

Monsters walk among us. It is every parent’s fear.

Tori’s mother, Tara McDonald said in the wake of Michael Rafferty’s conviction for Tori’s murder: “We finally have peace. We can finally rest.”

That’s good, but this crime could have been prevented.

The system, through great police work and a solid prosecution, sent two killers to prison for a minimum of 25 years.

But the system failed Tori when it released Teri-Lynn McClintic from custody where, while serving time for stabbing her robbery victims, she wrote over 100 letters screaming her desire to torture, maim and kill.

She fulfilled that desire with the murder of Tori Stafford.

    I would also say that her parents need to give themselves a good dose of the blame. Oxi-cotin addicted and still addicted Mom, largerly not in the picture Dad. Direction has to come from adults and where sadly missing in a childs life tradic things like this can happen.

    It has bothered me a great deal to wonder one circumstance I have no answer to. Suppose what Michael Rafferty did in this very terrible situation was done by McClintic, and McClintic did what Rafety did, what would have been the verdict?

    And I am just being curious here !!!!!!

      @EdwardM_8180 Sadly, it makes no difference. They are equally guilty, sick, responsible for the heinous outcome regardless. Both were unconscionable, working together like the depraved monsters they are. The law is quite impotent in allowing repeat offenders to offend repeatedly, while protecting the rights of criminals over those of victims. It is also culpable yet never held accountable. This legal system is broken when it bends over backwards to allow criminal rights to trump those of the most vulnerable, our children. Hard to fathom how our so called civilized society could screw this up so badly. Even in sentencing, all of the consideration is given to the guilty & convicted. Twenty five years is considered a "life sentence" for murderers? This is not true justice for the victims or their loved ones.

    The way the judicial system works she would have walked. Tell me the difference between MaClintic and Homolka. Did you know that Homolka is married today and with I think three children and no single Canadian is worried about her till when she will offer them to a next boyfriend she will get? This woman is in jail for she decided to open her mouth but all strength would have been used to save her from jail had she only said that Rafety is the killer. Go back in the cases we have passed through you will recognize my agony for I strongly believe that we are not yet done with Homolka.

    And my God help me that I am wrong only this time in my prediction.
