A video of a Florida father giving his son a hard kick in the pants that sends the boy tumbling down a skateboard ramp is causing quite a stir.
Marcus Crossland and his 6-year-old son were skating at Kona State Park in Arlington, Fl., when the dad lost patience with the boy who was afraid to roll down Big Brown, the park’s steepest ramp.
Crossland pushes the the boy who falls down the ramp hard and you hear the kid cry out and scream “ow!” The father walks away, not taking a look down the ramp to see whether his son is OK. It’s a disturbing scene that takes your breath away.
A teenager named Ryan Stephens (@lilbums on Instagram) caught the incident on video and posted it on Instagram. The clip went viral over the weekend and news media picked up on the story.
Florida’s First Coast News (FCN) reached out to the manager of the state park and Martin Ramos said Strickland is a regular at the park and has never exhibited hostile behavior toward his son in the past. But after last weekend, Ramos had to ask Strickland to stay away from the park for awhile.
“He [Crossland] said he was just caught up in the moment. He seemed very remorseful. He certainly understands the gravity of the situation and it seems like he is going to be answering to this thing for quite some time to come,” Ramos told FCN.
“Unfortunately parents get so enthusiastic about their kids and their abilities in skateboarding, or baseball, or football or whatever and sometimes they take it a little too far,” Ramos added.
Stephens, who took the video, confronted Strickland and asked why he pushed his son.”He said ‘because he needs to learn’. I was like ‘pushing him down is not teaching him how to drop in’. And then he said ‘do you think you can raise him better than me?’ and I said yes,” Stephens told FCN.
FCN send the video clip to Florida’s Department of Children and Families and the governmental agency is investigating the matter.
