Olivia Chow: Tactless & Power Hungry
As many of you know I stopped riding Rob Ford’s “Gravy Train” a long time ago.
Last municipal election I was one commentator that was trying to get as many people on board as possible, but I hopped off.
That doesn’t however put me in the camp of those that revel in the downward spiral the Mayor’s life has taken.
Quite the opposite.
When I hear comments like the one from Mayoral hopeful Olivia Chow my back gets up.
During a heated debate in Scarborough on Tuesday Chow was the first to go directly for the sensitive personal issues that have plagued the Mayor, rather than keeping the dialogue above the belt.
"Mr. Ford, even when you're clean and sober, you can't stick to the truth," Chow said during a heated exchange on the city's land-transfer tax.
The crowd appeared mixed on the former NDP MP's jab, with some applauding and others booing loudly. Some also suggested on Twitter the remark was a low blow.
They were right.
It was pathetic, cutting and calculated.
It also proved to me what I had long suspected, Olivia Chow isn’t looking to win this election on good ideas and grand vision…she is looking to steal this election by painting herself as the anti-Ford.
Having co-hosted the Drive show with Mrs. Chow for three hours, and sharing a fair amount of behind the scenes banter with her. I can honestly tell you that this candidate is someone being advised by many and hard pressed to come up with an idea of her own, unless her committee of so called experts gives it the green-light.
Make no mistake Toronto, Olivia Chow is a politician through and through, her main goal is power…and she will try to gain it at any cost.
Even if that means taking cheap shots cheap shots against a man that just got out of rehab for a disease he says he will take to his grave.
This city deserves to have someone willing to take the high road. A candidate that is willing to stick to their vision and share their ideas. Not a career politician that is looking to take advantage of a bad situation and kick a man when he is sick.
I won’t be voting for Rob Ford in the next election because I believe his train has been off track for quite some time. However I can see through the political game Olivia Chow is trying to play and it’s unimpressive to say the least.
