A terrifying story out of East York, where a 12-year-old girl has apparently been stalked for a month.
Toronto Police Const. David Hopkinson says the most recent incident happened on Friday (Aug. 21). The young girl was walking in the area of Eglinton and Laird when a man in a grey or silver Jeep Cherokee began to slowly follow her.
Then, he drove past her, made a U-turn, and continued to follow her for several blocks.
"We've been informed by this young girl that this has happened a number of times in this timeframe," Hopkinson says. "We've increased our patrols in the area, we have made officers locally aware of this investigation, and we're ensuring that there are extra patrols, and we want to alert the community to this suspicious incident."
Hopkinson says at this point no other victims have come forward, but police are hoping anyone who experienced something similar will speak with police.
"What's disturbing — 12 years old, a very young lady, and this has not happened once, this has happened a number of times," Hopkinson says.
The incidents began in July.
