Over a dozen horses are at the centre of an animal cruelty case in Stouffville.
An Ontario SPCA officer was called to the rural property on May 3rd about the welfare of a herd of horses.
Fourteen horses and one pony were allegedly found to be living in unsanitary conditions and incredibly thin with their ribs, hips, and spine easily visible. Their hooves were allegedly severely neglected.
Further investigation turned up multiple dead horses on the property.
Three Stouffville residents have been charged with permitting an animal to be in distress, failing to provide adequate food and failing to provide care necessary for general welfare. They will appear in a Newmarket court on July 6.
The horses from the property have been re-homed.
