Suspected drunk driving is behind a two car collision on the QEW early Sunday morning.
The collision occurred on the eastbound lanes near Hurontario just before 4 a.m.
Six people were sent to hospial, five from one of the two vehicles involved. The impact of the collision forced a rollover by both vehicles, one punched through the guiderail into the westbound lanes.
Two of the six people are listed in critical condition in a trauma centre in Toronto.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt confirmed via Periscope Sunday that the driver of the second car will be brought up on drunk driving offences.
"That lone occupant has been arrested and is now in hospital with minor injuries and is facing impaired driving charges and also impaired causing bodily harm."
The eastbound lanes of the QEW remain closed, but two lanes of the westbound side of the highway reopened at around 8:30.
The debris from the guiderail impact caused significant damage to cars travelling in the westbound lanes.
According to Schmidt, cleanup efforts from the accident will be time consuming.
"The clean up will take some time. I expect the left lane of both the eastbound and westbound lanes to remain closed for the morning and into most of the afternoon."
Schimdt added police are looking for any witnesses to the accident.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Port Credit OPP at (905) 278-6131.
