It's not even summer yet, and we've had our first case of a child being left in a car in a mall parking lot.
This one happened on Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of Vaughan Mills near Hwy 400 and Rutherford Road.
York Regional Police say the three year old girl was found in the vehicle, left running, in an 'expectant mothers' parking spot.
And police say she'd been left there for 40 minutes.
She was okay, but when dad arrived back just after 4 o'clock, he didn't even seem to care about the commotion.
"He really didn't seem to grasp the concept, didn't seem to express any remorse or feel he'd done anything wrong." says Constable Laura Nicolle with York Regional Police.
The 33-year-old Toronto man is facing several charges, including leaving a child unattended, and engage in a prohibited activity on premises.
Police are crediting the security team at the mall for making the find.
"It's just another reminder, there's no acceptable times to leave pets, family members or anyone in a vehicle. There's always other options." says Nicolle.
