Is it teaching a lesson, or cruel punishment.
The mother of a 5-year-old girl is fuming, after learning that her daughter was sent into a storage room, with the door closed, as a form of punishment.
She says her daughter was upset that her pizza lunch was cold, and wanted to get the attention of the lunchroom supervisor, to ask that it be warmed up.
When the supervisor ignored her, she kicked a table. The supervisor warned that if she did it again, she'd be "locked in a closet".
The Toronto District School Board says they take these allegations very seriously, and have released the following statement:
On Thursday, students informed the school administration about an incident they had witnessed two weeks prior. It was reported that a 5-year old student was told by a Lunchroom Supervisor to stay inside an unlocked storage room (room was approx. 3.5m x 2m and held toys) off of a classroom as a form of discipline. Staff immediately began to investigate and have notified Toronto Police as per our procedures. The Lunchroom Supervisor has been put on home assignment pending the outcome of an investigation. While we continue to investigate, the reported incident is very troubling and something that would be completely unacceptable.
NEWSTALK 1010 reached out to Toronto Police who also released a statement saying:
The report was assigned to an investigator last night. They have not yet had the opportunity to speak with the victim and witnesses of this alleged assault.
The alleged incident happened two weeks ago at Essex Junior and Senior Public School near Dupont and Christie.
The mother told CP24 that the daughter hasn't returned to school since Thursday, claiming to be afraid to go to school.
