Over the span of 55 minutes of Thursday's drizzly morning rush hour seven people were hit by cars on the streets of Toronto.
The crashes were called in between 7:33 a.m. and 8:28 a.m.
Six of the people hit were walking. Police believe the seventh may have been on a bike but could not say for sure.
Among those hurt, Toronto paramedics say two people were seriously hurt--a 13-year-old boy near Midland Ave and Lawrence Ave E and a man in his 40s near Keele St and Eglinton Ave E.
Const. Clint Stibbe tells NEWSTALK 1010 in some cases Thursday the driver was at fault but not in others.
He says this is the time of year we typically see an increase in the number of pedestrians being hit, an upward trend that begins in mid-September and stretches into mid-December with a peak in November.
"With that we do see rain in the morning, the darkness late in the morning. Things that drivers aren't necessarily used to, but at the same time it's an adjustment that we need to make as drivers and as pedestrians, to be aware when we are crossing a roadway to be crossing at the appropriate locations, crossing at the appropriate times but at the same time be aware of what's happening around us."
