We often hear the stories about 'the busiest day of the year to fly' at Pearson. That usually comes around Christmas or March Break.
But would you believe, Friday is that day at the Billy Bishop Island airport.
With a pedestrian tunnel now being used every day, it's easier to get to the airport, and the numbers are showing.
13 thousand people are expected to use the airport on Friday, which doesn't sound like much compared to the tens of thousands on a busy day at Pearson, but as late as 2005, only 26 thousand people used the airport over an entire year.
Gene Cabral, who is the executive vice president of the airport says there's a changing demographic happening at the airport too.
"It used to be all business travellers, but now we're seeing more leisure travellers who are getting away for the weekend."
He says this record breaks the old one that was set back in the summer, and it marks the most people to use the airport in one day, since it opened in 1939.
