How hard has the pandemic hit Canada's food service industry?
According to a new report, released today by Restaurants Canada, 800,000 people have lost jobs since March 1st including 300,000 in Ontario.
The entire country lost 400,000 jobs in the year following the 2008 financial meltdown.
Restaurants Canada surveyed members and says four out of every five restaurants in Canada has laid off employees and 10% say they are closed for good.
The group is happy the government has offered help but wants more to be done to give restaurants a break on rent as well as allowing businesses to qualify for the program paying 75% of payroll.
