Toronto Police have made an arrest in a shooting that occurred in the Jane and Finch area Thursday morning.
Officers responded to a shooting call just before 10 a.m.
Const. Jenniferjit Sidhu confirmed to NEWSTALK 1010 Friday a 17-year-old was walking in the area when another male got out of a car and started shooting at him.
The 17-year-old youth produced a gun and returned fire, but was shot in the process and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Members of the West Command Gun Violence Suppression Unit executed a Search Warrant in the area and seized a loaded Bersa S.A. .380 handgun.
A 17-year-old Toronto youth, who cannot be named under provisions contained in the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and faces five charges, including the discharge of a firearm with Intent to endanger life and possession of a loaded firearm.
What Sidhu could not confirm was whether the identity of the suspect is that of the victim who was shot.
" It's an ongoing investigation and to protect the identity of the victim, under the Youth Criminal Act, we can't provide any more information because it's still ongoing."
