A suspected terrorist who allegedly attacked people inside a Canadian Tire store in Scarborough, all in the name of ISIS, now says she's innocent.
Prior to this, Rehab Dughmosh had asked if she could plead guilty and be done with it.
She's accused of swinging a golf club and knife at people inside the store this Summer. Today it was learned that she's also charged with concealing a bow.
Dughmosh sat in the prisoner's box wearing her niqab and green sweatsuit, arms crossed.
Justice Kimberley Crosbie began by telling Dughmosh she has no reason to believe she's not fit to stand trial and that it needs to be determined where things go from here, that during her first two court appearances she expressed a wish to plead guilty.
"No. I am not guilty and I do not wish to be in bail court," Dughmosh replied.
Justice Kimberley continued by explaining to Dughmosh that she must decide on how she wants to be tried - by judge alone or by judge and jury.
It was then that Dughmosh, once again, pledged her support for the Islamic State.
After repeated failed attempts to have her make a choice, Justice Kimberley used a provision in the Criminal Code and made the election for her. Dughmosh will be tried by judge and jury.
"If I refuse to go to court will they force me in jail?" Dughmosh asked.
"Absolutely," is the response that came from Justice Kimberley.
Following her first two appearances after her arrest in June, Dughmosh wouldn't leave her jail cell to face Justice Kimberley, even by video. It was only until an order was made for jail guards to use force, if necessary, that the matter started moving along, again.
"Am I subject to this trial and court because I have a Canadian citizenship?" questioned Dughmosh.
"No," answered Justice Kimberley.
Just before a date for her next court appearance was set, Dughmosh vowed violence if ever released from jail and that she'd support ISIS until she dies.
She returns to Superior Court on October 11.
